Exclusive: Leeds tipped to sign one more player before October 16 by ex-player

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has tipped Leeds United to sign a new experienced goalkeeper before the domestic transfer window closes on October 16.

Illan Meslier has emerged as Marcelo Bielsa’s first-choice goalkeeper since Leeds won promotion to the Premier League while the Whites manager also has Kiko Casilla and Elia Caprile to choose from.

However, Robinson clearly doesn’t feel as though the goalkeeper options are as good as they could be and believes that if Leeds were to sign another new player – and he admits that’s a big if – it would be a battle-hardened shot-stopper.

“I think they’re pretty happy. I can’t see anywhere else they need strengthening,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

“It’s a bigger squad than Bielsa normally works with but that’s needed in the Premier League. They’ve got that strength in depth.

“We could potentially see one new goalkeeper come in – a more experienced one. But, in all honesty, I think that’s their business done as far as incomings go.”

The pool of goalkeepers for Leeds to potentially sign is a lot smaller now that the international transfer window has closed and most clubs will have settled on their shot-stopper options for the season already.

However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t players out there for Bielsa and Victor Orta to sign if they agree with Robinson that they need a new experienced goalkeeper.

There are a few free agents who fit that profile with Michel Vorm, Daniel Subasic and Heurelho Gomes currently available.
