‘Exciting… Of all the strikers’ – Exclusive: Pundit reacts as Leeds no.1 CF target reported

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that Odsonne Edouard is the striker that “excites” him the most as Leeds look for increased firepower in the Premier League.

The Daily Mirror has said that the Celtic hitman is the number-one striker target for Leeds (Sunday, print edition, p66) after previously reporting that the Whites were plotting an ambitious move.

Leeds certainly seem to have the money to make a bid for Edouard after it was revealed that they’d had a £31.4m bid for Jonathan David turned down.

However, Robinson has warned Leeds against putting all their eggs in one basket this summer.

Reacting to the Mirror claim, exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “Most of the strikers that Leeds are being linked with don’t have Premier League experience. Someone like Mitrovic does but Fulham are back in the Premier League now themselves.

“Edouard has all the quality and he’s done it in the Scottish Premiership but, no disrespect to Celtic or the SPL, he hasn’t done it in the Premier League and we won’t know until we see him there.

“However, he’s certainly shown he’s got all the attributes you need to be a success in the Premier League.

“He’s an exciting player I’d love to see at Leeds. Of all the strikers that Leeds could bring in, he’s the one that excites me the most – if they could get it over the line.

“But he won’t come cheap. It all depends on how much money Leeds have to spend and it’s important to strengthen the team as a whole.

“There’s no point spending all of your money on one player and Edouard would take a big chunk of anyone’s budget.”

Edouard’s season started off brightly in Scotland with a hat-trick against Hamilton.

However, Celtic are currently embroiled in a Coronavirus crisis after Boli Bolingoli broke quarantine rules.

That’s led to Celtic having games postponed and put the immediate future of the SPL’s fixtures in jeopardy after a ‘yellow-card’ warning from Nicola Sturgeon.
