Crysencio Summerville transfer approach shock as Leeds United star wanted

Former Leeds United man David Norris is surprised by reports linking Crysencio Summerville with Paris Saint-Germain.

Norris referred to Raphinha’s move to Barcelona from Elland Road in 2022 as a comparison, claiming Summerville “isn’t on that level yet” to play regularly for the French champions.

The 22-year-old is in high demand this summer amid expectations he will leave Daniel Farke’s side as several Premier League clubs circle, with Foot Mercato’s Sebastien Denis reporting via X [16 July] that PSG had also touched base.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, the ex-Whites midfielder said: “I must say I’m surprised.

“He’s a great player, but I’m not sure about a club like PSG just yet. Look at Raphinha a couple of years ago going to Barcelona, the level he was performing at – Summerville is no Raphinha just yet, he’s not quite on that level of consistently doing it in the top division.

“PSG would maybe acknowledge that it’s a bit of a risk going for a Championship player, but he obviously has a lot of promise and a lot of talent.”

Leeds United overseeing Summerville saga

Leeds United can afford to monitor the situation with Summerville at their own pace for now, based on the high volume of interest in their star man.

The Dutchman is naturally open to the chance to move on for Premier League football and potentially European competition, alongside the exposure to be called up for the Netherlands.

The point Norris makes is that while Summerville would possibly excel in a mid-table Premier League side, he may struggle to hit the heights and receive consistent game time in a Champions League-level club – Raphinha had been performing out of his skin in the Premier League before his move to Catalonia.

Crysencio Summerville has finally left Leeds United, joining West Ham

Fulham have joined West Ham United in the race for his signature [Lyall Thomas, 22 July], yet it also remains a possibility that Summerville could be in Farke’s starting XI when Leeds take on Portsmouth in just two weeks’ time to kick off their new Championship promotion hunt.

The playmaker has two years remaining on his current deal in West Yorkshire.
