‘By the sounds of it’ – Exclusive: Leeds pundit details what he’s heard about Augustin dispute

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said he thinks Leeds fans have seen the last of Jean-Kevin Augustin and that he’s heard Leeds “will be okay” and won’t have to sign the RB Leipzig striker.

Leeds have an obligation to sign Augustin for a fee of around £18.5m if they get promoted but didn’t extend the strikers loan and reportedly want to get out of the signing.

Robinson admitted it could be an expensive mistake but said there were “enough loopholes” to save Leeds from signing a player they don’t want.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I don’t think we’ll see Jean-Kevin Augustin again.

“It could end up being a very expensive mistake but I think they’ll be okay by the sounds of it.

“You’re not going to sign a player who doesn’t want to come to you. If the player turns around and doesn’t want to go to a club then you can’t force him.

“There are enough loopholes that will get Leeds out of signing a player who they don’t want to sign anymore.

“Augustin is an undoubted talent but it hasn’t worked out and his body just couldn’t take the intensive Bielsa regime.”

We hope that Leeds can get out of the obligation to buy Augustin.

According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, Leeds have already spent a third of their £100m Premier League TV money on non-transfer business.

Another outlay of £18.5m for a player who Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t want would be nothing short of a disaster.
