We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United
Paul Robinson has said that after a quiet January, he’s expecting a very busy summer of transfers for Leeds with some “big names” arriving.
Leeds have stayed true to their word this January after they said there would be no major incomings.
With the window shutting on Monday, Leeds have yet to make any moves despite taking on an additional £50m of investment from the San Fran 49ers and suffering injuries to two senior centre-backs.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I think regardless of whether new investment came in there would have been some big names arriving at Leeds this summer. The money helps, though.
“I think if Leeds can stay in the Premier League this season, and it certainly looks like we will, it will be a busy summer for the club.
“Leeds have been conceding far too many goals and also conceding far too many chances.
“In the defensive midfield position, they need cover for Kalvin Phillips.
“It’s been highlighted already and we’re only halfway through the season. It’s shown the squad is thin, it’s not strong.
“The Leeds first XI is strong, the next two or three are strong, but go beyond that and the squad is not strong enough for next season.”
The first signing we think Leeds should make in the summer is a new contract for Marcelo Bielsa.
After that, we expect everything else to fall into place.
Leeds have been linked with some big names, including Julian Draxler, and we think Bielsa will be the man who can tempt them to Elland Road.
