We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Illan Meslier looks international quality and said that at £5m he’s looking like the “bargain of the season.”
Robinson said that keeping two clean sheets was huge for the keeper after letting in eight goals in the two games prior.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I thought Meslier could have been affected by the two 4-1 defeats, letting in eight goals in two games.
“It was a real test of character for the youngster so he’ll take a lot from the last two games and the two clean sheets.
“The Arsenal game was quieter but his performance at Goodison was outstanding, in fact the display from both keepers was brilliant.
“It was a very calm, composed performance from Pickford and he looked like an international keeper, as did Meslier.
“For someone so young, at just 20 years of age, he really does look like the bargain of the season at the moment.”
Meslier asked to leave Lorient after they brought in another keeper in the summer of 2019.
They may live to regret that decision after his rise in the Premier League and we’ve no doubt that he’s worth a lot more now than the £5m Leeds paid for him.
