49ers work behind the scenes at Leeds United to secure new signings for Jesse Marsch - Sky pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

The San Francisco 49ers are clearly having a say on the transfer business at Leeds United now, according to Paul Robinson.

Leeds hired American manager Jesse Marsch back in February while USA internationals Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams have both been signed by the Whites since the end of last season.

Marsch has also used his links to the Red Bull group, which has had a strong presence in the US for over a decade, to sign Rasmus Kristensen, as well as Aaronson and Adams.

Robinson is happy to see the investment after Andrea Radrizzani failed to pump any money into the senior squad back in January despite Leeds’ obvious need for reinforcements.

However, the former goalkeeper does believe the 49ers are having a large say on business from behind the scenes at Elland Road.

“There’s no shying away from it – it’s apparent for all to see,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

“With the manager and players coming in, there are some of his old players and USA international players as well, the 49ers’ influence is there behind the scenes.

There was no money spent in January and that was a chance that Radrizzani took. But now, you see them spending and doing business this window.

They’ve lost Kalvin Phillips and potentially could lose Raphinha, although the longer that goes, the more likely looking he could stay. He clearly wants to go to Barcelona but if Barcelona don’t get their finances in order, then it could be that he stays, which would be a huge boost for Leeds.

But the money is obviously coming in now from the 49ers and the manager and the American owners are having a big say at the club.”

Leeds have signed six new players since the end of last season with Luis Sinisterra and Darko Gyabi also arriving to strengthen Marschs’ squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

In other Leeds United news, this Leeds player has been spotted on the plane to Australia with the rest of the squad despite major transfer news emerging this weekend.
