'Obviously got quality' - Sky pundit delivers verdict on PL player linked to Leeds by Phil Hay

Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills has claimed that Everton forward Cenk Tosun would only be seen as a back-up player at Leeds United if he switched to Elland Road in January.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has reported that Tosun is someone on Leeds’ shortlist to replace Eddie Nketiah in January if Arsenal decide to recall the young forward from his loan spell at Elland Road.

Nketiah has not started a single league match for Leeds and could well be on his way back to North London next month so signing a new striker could be on the cards for Marcelo Bielsa.

Ex-Leeds defender Mills has suggested that he is a fan of Tosun but only thinks the Turkey international will serve as a back-up for Patrick Bamford.

“I think it’s probably a back-up solution if Nketiah leaves,” Mills told Football Insider when asked about the speculation.

“I think he’s not been prolific Everton but we have seen he is hard-working, diligent, obviously got quality may not quite enough for the Premier League.

“But he could be an ideal replacement, as he has experience, if Nketiah goes back to Arsenal.”

Tosun has struggled quite a lot since joining Everton from Besiktas in January 2018.

He’s only scored 10 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions and has only started two Premier League matches for the Toffees this season.

Although it is Hay, perhaps the most reliable journalist when it comes to Leeds, that is reporting it, you just don’t get the feeling that Tosun is a player that will head to Elland Road next month.

Liverpool’s 19-year-old striker Rhian Brewster is a more likely option to serve as back-up because why would Tosun drop to the Championship to potentially earn even less game-time than he’s getting now?

In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan has slammed this player for his display against Cardiff.
