MOT View: Leeds player who blew away Tony Cottee must be frustrated by current situation

Ezgjan Alioski has scored two goals in two games but it does not seem as though he will be starting for Leeds United when they take on Cardiff City on Saturday.

Marcelo Bielsa has never been one for making changes to his side and after Alioski, 27, was dropped for the win against Hull on Tuesday night, it seems as though he will have to get comfortable on the bench.

The Macedonia international has made quite the impact in his last two appearances.

He scored a thunderous goal in the 2-0 win against Huddersfield before blowing away Sky Sports pundit Tony Cottee with a sweet finish in the 2-0 victory over Hull on Tuesday.

“What a finish from Alioski,” said Cottee during his live commentary on Sky Sports News on Tuesday night after the Macedonian doubled Leeds’ lead.

“From a tight angle, he’s done brilliantly to put it in from there. It’s a wonderful finish.”

Even though the former West Ham striker was impressed by Alioski’s goal against Hull, it still seems as though he will have to make do with starting on the bench against Cardiff.

It must be frustrating for Alioski.

The former Lugano winger has done little wrong all season for the Whites but after injury ruled him out of three games at the start of November, he has only started once in four games.

Did he deserve to be dropped from the starting line-up? Absolutely not. However it does say more about the form of Alioski’s team-mates rather than him.

Bielsa has clearly adopted an ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ mentality to his starting line-up. Leeds are top of the table and have won their last seven in a row. Why change things now?

Alioski deserves to start but no one deserves to be dropped either. Especially Jack Harrison and Stuart Dallas, the two players who the Macedonian is most likely to replace.

At the moment, the best that the winger can hope for is an injury or a severe drop in form by one of those two, but clinging onto that hope is not exactly being a good team-player.

It must be so frustrating but we are so glad to see the team doing so well and Alioski also getting among the goals.

He’s an absolute gem.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are likely to rake in over £1million from one match next month.
