Live from Wolves: One 4/10, best player 9/10 – Leeds U23 player ratings in 2-2 draw
After their last defeat against Birmingham in the Premier League Cup, Leeds United under-23s had little to play for at Wolves.
That reflected in Carlos Coberan’s team, the Spaniard making six changes – Alfie McCalmont and Jamie Shackleton settling for a place on the bench.
The Whites went into the break 2-1 to the good thanks to two goals from the impressive Stuart McKinstry.
Wolves put the away side under pressure in the second half and it counted when they capitalized on poor defending to equalize – 2-2.
Here are our MOT Leeds News players ratings…
Kamil Miazek – 7
Unusually shaky in possession. Miazek was frightened to play our short from the back at times. Apart from that, he made a number of important saves, including a cracking double effort just before the second.
Nohan Kenneh – 6
Filled in at right-back and was solid. Wolves attacked primarily down the other flank.
Theo Hudson – 6
Solid from the rarely-seen full-back. The home side targeted him at times but he stood strong with little support from Haugland in front of him.
Olly Casey – 7
Was taken off at the break after a solid half, dealt well with the physical threat of the opposing attack.
Charlie Cresswell – 7
A usual Cresswell performance. Vocal, physical and calm in possession. The only downside was that he was turned far too easily for Wolves’ opener.
Jack Jenkins – 8
Very confident display from Jenkins. He wasn’t afraid to get on the ball under pressure and work little openings. Stayed compact and offered great support to the centre-halves.
Bobby Kamwa – 8
One of the best youngsters in the side. Kamwa has lightning pace, and he often turned defence into attack within the blink of an eye for the whites. Struggled in defence but that isn’t his job.
Mateusz Bogusz – 5
Started brightly but was dragged off for McCalmont after 30 minutes – not clear if it was tactical or because of injury.
Stuart McKinstry – 9
Superb afternoon for the Scottish youngster. Took his two goals very well, and it was his cracking run that created the second.
Niklas Haugland – 4
Well out of his depth. Haugland struggled for the U18s recently and was shocking for the 23s. The forward had to be given constant orders from the touchline and looked confused with the system.
Ryan Edmondson – 8
Credit where credit is due, the forward spearheaded the young side well.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign a Bundesliga club’s player.
