Leeds could make late January swoop to sign RB Leipzig centre-forward - report
Leeds United have turned their attention towards signing RB Leipzig centre-forward Jean-Kevin Augustin, according to The Athletic.
Augustin, 22, is currently on a season-long loan at Monaco and it is understood that Leeds will make a late January swoop to sign the striker if the Ligue 1 club terminates that loan deal before the end of the month.
Despite starting just two games in Ligue 1, The Athletic reports that Monaco are reluctant to let Augustin leave this month even though the France Under-21 international is “open to other opportunities”.
Leeds are in the market for a new striker this moth and have seen three attempts to sign Che Adams from Southampton rebuffed by the south coast club.
The Whites have now reportedly started to focus their attention on targets in Europe, such as Augustin, who cost RB Leipzig £12million when they signed him from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2017.
Augustin may not have played much for Monaco this season, scoring one goal in 13 appearances across all competitions.
However he is certainly a promising young striker who scored 20 goals in two seasons before being loaned out to Monaco in the summer.
Is he the striker who Leeds need to help secure promotion back to the Premier League?
He seems a much better option than Eddie Nketiah ever was and could even give Patrick Bamford a massive run for his money.
What a signing he would be.
