Leeds United to lead James McAtee transfer race as new Red Bull update emerges

Daniel Farke will need to invest sensibly in January if Leeds United are to achieve promotion back to the Premier League.

The Whites have already been linked with a plethora of names ahead of the transfer window opening, such as Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Dor Turgeman [Daily Mail] and ex-Everton defender Ben Godfrey [TBR Football].

One transfer link which has caused a lot of excitement amongst the passionate fans at Elland Road is Manchester City youngster James McAtee, who is being chased by a number of teams.

According to CaughtOffside [20 November], Leeds have already made a “bold attempt” to sign the 22-year-old midfielder, with Man City open to a sale exceeding £20million.

Ahead of the January transfer window, £20million sounds like a lot of money to splash out on a player who only has nine first-team appearances at the Etihad Stadium.

However, given the new update surrounding Leeds’ investors Red Bull, the transfer dream could become reality.

Red Bull to help Leeds United sign James McAtee?

This could be massive news ahead of the January transfer window, especially considering a potential eye-watering £20million price tag, but it could be a necessary transfer to help seal promotion.

McAtee has plenty of experience in the Championship with two spells with Sheffield United, impressing on both occasions as he notched 14 goals and eight assists.

With just 333 minutes of football for Man City this season, it is clear that his services would be far more appreciated elsewhere, and Leeds must ensure they acquire his signature with a new influx of funds.

In other Leeds United news, a January loan update has been issued on a Leeds-linked player who Daniel Farke admires.
