Leeds United ‘sleepwalking out of promotion race’ amid rival development
Leeds United look set to be the only top-four side yet to make a winter signing after Chris Wilder insinuated that Ben Brereton Diaz is Sheffield-bound.
Leeds could move back to the summit of the Championship with a win against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday but questions are to be had about where their true ambitions lie.
With Diaz’s pending arrival at Bramall Lane, the Whites will be the only side within the top four yet to strengthen their squad and with almost three weeks passed in the window, it’s becoming a concern.
While there is undoubted quality at Elland Road, the same can be said about their promotion rivals who haven’t allowed themselves to rest on their laurels and have gone out of their way to boost those hopes of a Premier League return.
Leeds United need to ramp up winter business
It would be a major oversight if the Whites were to end the window without any new recruits and while it seems unlikely, it is certainly a possibility.
Under the stewardship of Daniel Farke, Leeds have had an excellent campaign and could yet find themselves at the top of the table but with just less than half of the season to go, a failure to strengthen could prove costly.
Of course, there is still plenty of time but the prospect of early arrivals should be appealing given the time recruits will likely need to settle into the squad and adapt to the way of playing.

As the window goes on, selling clubs will become far less willing to sanction any exits in fear of being unable to find a replacement and Leeds could face the brunt of that.
Efforts to improve the squad certainly need to be ramped up in the coming days if Leeds are to maintain their position as the favourites for the title.
