Leeds United: Daniel Farke to lose Junior Firpo for two weeks as announcement made

Daniel Farke is set to lose another key member of his squad for two weeks over the international break amid a development involving Junior Firpo.

The Dominican Republic announced on Monday (11 March) that Firpo has been called up for the first time after switching international allegiance.

Firpo had previously represented Spain, where he moved at a young age, at various levels up to and including the Under-21s.

However, after previously revealing he would be open to representing his country of birth, the full-back will now get a chance to do just that.

The news was confirmed via the Dominican Republic’s Twitter page [11 March] in a video showing Firpo holding the nation’s football top.

As a result of being called up, Firpo is now in line to feature in the Dominican Republic’s upcoming friendlies with Aruba and Peru.

While it will be seen as recognition of sorts for Firpo’s form in a Leeds shirt, it is not ideal that a key player will be travelling across the world.

Farke will already be watching March’s international fixtures with one hand over his face due to the high number of players jetting off.

March international break could be troublesome for Leeds United

The German is able to closely monitor each player’s fitness levels while with the club, but that is not the case when they are with their countries.

It also means that Farke will be left with a fall smaller group of players to work with over the two-week break, which commences next week.

This may not exactly be a new situation for Leeds given their large international contingent, but the list just seems to get bigger and bigger.

With Leeds being selected in the Friday evening slot on March 29, it means that it will be a very quick turnover for each of those heading off.

All Farke and Leeds fans can do is keep their fingers crossed that each of those players return fit and rearing to go in the final push for promotion.
