Tony Dorigo was wowed by Junior Firpo in the build-up to Patrick Bamford's opening goal as Leeds United beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 on Friday (8 March).

The Spaniard notched his fifth assist of the Championship season, whipping in a delightful cross for Bamford to poke home, just minutes before the half-time whistle sounded.

It turned out to be a vital moment as Wilfried Gnonto doubled the Whites' advantage in the 58th minute, with all the momentum in their favour against the Owls.

In footage released via the club's official X account, Dorigo reacted to the goal: "Wow. Absolute quality. That is some ball in, it really is."

How important has Junior Firpo become for Leeds United?

In his 11th Championship start of the season, the 27-year-old full-back recorded his first goal contribution in 12 appearances, last assisting in the 2-1 victory over Preston North End in January.

Despite a lack of goals and assists to prove it, Firpo has remained a constant threat down the left-hand side and has emerged as a fan-favourite, with a new chant being sung around Elland Road.

It appeared that the former Barcelona defender would not have much of a future with Leeds, having been injured for the majority of the first half of the season.

Though with all 11 of his league starts this campaign coming since the turn of the year, Daniel Farke seems to have discovered a new-found belief in Firpo, who continues to thrive without injury.

With Archie Gray comfortable on the opposite flank, and Connor Roberts and Sam Byram waiting in the wings, an injury now to the Spaniard would not be so devastating.

However, the others do not show as much attacking talent as Firpo, which could prove to be important in the end-of-season run-in, with Leeds needing as many wins as possible to keep pressure on Leicester City and Ipswich Town at the top of the table.
