Leeds United: Max Wober could return to Elland Road amid ‘increasing crisis’ at Monchengladbach

Leeds United loanee Max Wober could be set to return to Elland Road at the end of the season amid an increasing “crisis” at Borussia Monchengladbach, as detailed by Sky Sports Germany.

In an interview with the defender via their website on 21 February, the defender called for his teammates not to make any excuses and get on with the job during a passionate conversation.

The leadership he has shown since joining the Bundesliga outfit would be a benefit to Leeds should he return, and even more so if they are promoted to the Premier League.

Gladbach currently sit in 15th, six points above the relegation playoff place in the Bundesliga, and are without a win in their last five games, having won just one of their last nine.

Could Max Wober return to Leeds United?

Wober’s loan deal is set to expire at the end of the season, and with three years left on his deal at Elland Road, the pathway remains very much there for him to return.

He had previously spoken about the way Leeds are playing this season, labelling the style of play as “really cool football”, and also shared that he has no control over his future if Leeds go up.

Negotiations reportedly began between Monchengladbach and Leeds in January about a permanent move for Wober, although with no buy clause included in his loan deal, his price tag could be too high for the German club to afford.

If a deal cannot be struck, however, questions will be asked about his attitude upon returning to Elland Road. Despite the leadership he has shown in Germany, he remains one of the group at Leeds that deserted the club upon their relegation.

With the club having moved on under Daniel Farke’s leadership, whether there would be a place for any of their loanees upon their return has been a topic of debate, with their futures remaining unclear.

In other Leeds United news, bids are expected to arrive for Archie Gray this summer.
