Leeds United guilty of Patrick Bamford transfer howler

Leeds United are said to be reluctant to sanction an exit for Patrick Bamford off the back of Joe Gelhardt’s pending transfer to Hull City and it looks to be a mistake in waiting.

Bamford just hasn’t had any sort of impact at Leeds United this season, and an exit for the frontman should be a necessity given his reported £30,000 per week wages [Football League Paper].

Blackburn are said to be interested in his services [The Sun], but a recent stance was shared suggesting Leeds will not sanction an exit until a new striker arrives [Leeds Live], and they simply can’t afford to wait on that to happen.

His wages will provide a stumbling block for the Whites to undertake any business of their own, and if they are to wait on an arrival, there is every chance potential suitors will move on from their interest in Bamford.

Gelhardt looks set for a move to Hull City after a medical was penned in for Sunday (12 January) [James Hoggarth] with Daniel Farke unlikely to want two strikers to depart without an incoming.

Leeds United are sitting with their arms crossed

While there is no denying the current level of quality in the Leeds squad, it is becoming somewhat of a concern to see such a lack of transfer movement and that is in terms of both incomings and outgoings.

With other clubs strengthening their squad, the Whites could find themselves embroiled in a fierce promotion race that without the addition of players, could sway out of their favour.

January transfers always have a sense of risk to them given the often inflated prices and time restraints to conclude a deal, but the potential benefits can be huge and Leeds are missing out on that as it stands.

Of course, there is still plenty of time for business to be conducted, but anything imminent seems unlikely.
