Leeds ‘face rush to seal deal’ as £6m+ bid submitted for Morgan Whittaker

Leeds United must move quickly to sign Morgan Whittaker before Middlesbrough.

The Whites have been linked with various attacking reinforcements in the winter transfer window despite being top of the Championship.

This has seen Emi Buendia, Louie Barry and Willem Geubbels [Sky Sports] linked with a move to Elland Road in January so far.

Given that these deals are yet to go through, Daniel Farke and Co. could redirect potential transfer funds and mount an attempt to bring Whittaker to LS11.

Leeds United must hijack Middlesbrough deal for Morgan Whittaker

If Leeds are keen on bringing in a forward option to help fire them to Championship glory, there aren’t going to be many better options than the Plymouth Argyle sensation.

The 24-year-old scored 20 goals and assisted eight across 50 appearances in all competitions for the Pilgrims last campaign.

The Englishman has followed that up by contributing to three goals in a difficult season for an Argyle side routed to the bottom of the league.

Now Whittaker looks set to be on his way out of Home Park with a bid worth £6 million plus add-ons from Middlesbrough being accepted on Friday [Alan Nixon, 24 January].

Given the forward’s exploits in the second tier last season, a fee less than £6m appears to be a bargain that the Whites should be looking to take advantage of.

Leeds United could hijack a Middlesbrough bid for Morgan Whittaker

With ten days remaining in the winter window, Farke needs to move quickly but could make a case to tempt the attacker to Elland Road.

The prospect of Premier League football next season could be a telling factor if Leeds do look to hijack a deal after Middlesbrough’s initial bid.
