Jayden Bogle could be soon handed a two-match ban after an incident that occurred in the first half of Leeds United's win over Sunderland.

Leeds climbed back to the summit of the Championship with an edgy 2-1 victory over Sunderland on Monday night, greatly improving their chances of automatic promotion.

Daniel Farke's side were deserving of all three points, which now sees them seven points clear of Burnley in third and two above Sheffield United, their next opponents.

However, the Whites face the prospect of losing Bogle for two games in the near future after an incident involving the full-back against the Wearsiders.

Sunderland started the game well at Elland Road, and that early pressure forced the Leeds backline into making some last-ditch challenges, one of which was poorly timed.

Jobe Bellingham found himself with space to attack down the left flank, before a late challenge from Bogle brought him to the ground, winning a free kick and earning a yellow card for the Leeds defender.

That was his ninth card of the season, meaning he is now just one card away from receiving a two-match ban.

The cut-off point for a suspension from accumulating yellow cards is after matchday 37, meaning Bogle will be walking a tightrope in the next four encounters.

Should that development play out, it would be a huge blow for the Whites to lose Bogle, who has been a standout performer for Leeds this season.

Promotion beckons for Leeds United

Both sides were aware of the magnitude of the game at Elland Road on Monday (17 February), and with Leeds coming away victorious in a feisty contest, it leaves them in an excellent position to go on and achieve their goal of promotion.

At this stage in the season, a seven-point gap isn't unsalvageable but it is a healthy advantage to have, especially when taking into account the ruthless run of form Leeds are on.

If Farke's side can repeat the trick in their next encounter with Sheffield United, a return to the Premier League will be almost nailed on.
