‘Give him a 10-year contract’ – These Leeds fans celebrate Elland Road ‘saviour’

Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on Marcelo Bielsa on the second anniversary of his appointment.

The Argentine took over in the dugout on June 15th 2018, as the club point out via their official Twitter account, and has transformed the club from perennial underachievers to Championship leaders.

Promotion feels like a very real prospect this year at long last, and we ultimately have Bielsa to thank for the seismic impact he has had at Elland Road.

His points per game average over the course of his time in Yorkshire has been 1.79.

As a point of reference Paul Heckingbottom’s was just 1.00.

But we all know that Bielsa’s influence hasn’t just stopped on the pitch.

The South American has revitalised the club as a a whole, and rekindled many supporters’ love for a side that was becoming increasingly infuriating to follow.

For a long time since our relegation from the top flight in 2004, we have been made into a laughing stock by season after season of obscurity and disappointment.

Now, however, we are the most feared side in the Championship, and should we go up this summer, will give a lot of Premier League clubs a run for their money too.

But first and foremost, before we think about any of the footballing achievements that Bielsa has brought with him to Leeds – or even the ones that he might realise in the coming weeks – the main thing that stands out is just how much pride he has restored in this great club.

There is a reason that the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino idolise him, and you will struggle to find a single Leeds fan who doesn’t feel exactly the same way.

Let’s just hope he’s still with us in another two years’ time.
