49ers must move quickly as Leeds player sales ramp up

New Leeds United owners 49ers Enterprises will have to move quickly in the transfer market to keep fans calm, as exits look set to stack up despite no manager or incoming players in sight.

The cost of relegation for Leeds United so far has been a seemingly endless stream of rumours linking the majority of their squad to moves away. This type of thing is inevitable when dropping down a division, especially with so many high-paid stars, but with nothing coming the other way, fans are beginning to get restless.

Tyler Adams has continuously been linked with a move to Premier League side [the Express, 29 June], Rodrigo looks set to join Al-Rayyan [Bruno Andrade, 28 June], Robin Koch has been linked to Napoli [Di Marzio, 29 June], Willy Gnonto has been linked to moves back to Italy or the Premier League, and that’s just listing a few.

Leeds fans have become increasingly disgruntled at the constant talks and rumours of players leaving, especially when Leicester, who were also relegated at the end of last season, have moved quickly and look set to agree deals for both Harry Winks and Conor Coady.

Leeds, whose ownership is still at odds having not yet been confirmed by the EFL, are yet to appoint a manager – something else Leicester beat them to – and have only been reliably linked to signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips [The Athletic, 27 June].

The 49ers will need to move quickly and start spending the cash if they want to appease a restless fanbase, who are anxious to know whether their squad will just be allowed to be picked apart as Premier League vultures circle.

While it is still early days in the transfer window, some reassurance as to the state of the club, and the status of the squad, would not go amiss at Elland Road.
