Young Leeds ace who has impressed Bielsa in murderball set for ‘bumper’ new 3-year deal – report

Leeds United Under-23 hotshot Stuart McKinstry is set to land what’s been described as a “bumper” new deal.

The Daily Record transfer blog (Sunday, 9am), claims that McKinstry has impressed Marcelo Bielsa and will be rewarded with a new deal that will see him stay at the club until 2023.

17-year-old McKinstry signed for Leeds last summer for a fee said to be £400,000.

He is yet to make his first-team debut but has been involved with first-team training and Marcelo Bielsa’s infamous murderball sessions.

Athletic journalist Phil Hay said he has been “ringing Bielsa’s bell” at Throp Arch.

McKinstry – one to watch

We heard really good things about McKinstry before he joined Leeds and he seems to be doing all the right things at Thorp Arch.

He was the stand-out performer at Old Trafford in the Under-18s defeat to Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup.

And he scored a wonderful goal for the Under-23s back in January that shows his potential.

We’ve watched him a number of times for the Under-23s at Thorp Arch last season and he’s almost always impressed us.

That looks set to pay off for the youngster and a new deal means he will be one to watch next season.

We haven’t heard anything about him being one of the youngsters being lined up for a youth deal and we think he will play a central role in what’s shaping up to be a formidable Under-23s side next season.

We could even see him making his way onto the bench in the first team.
