Luca Thomas ‘buzzing’ after back-to-back Leeds United u21s PL2 wins
Luca Thomas has praised the form of the Leeds United Under-21s after scoring a brace in a 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Friday (19 April).
The 19-year-old was on target twice to help secure three points and move away from the base of Premier League Two. This helped Scott Gardner’s side secure their second win in four days after they beat Derby County under 21s 3-0.
After the game, Thomas spoke to LUTV to share his delight after getting on the scoresheet and helping to guide his side to back-to-back wins.
He said: “We’re really happy. In the last few months, we haven’t got the results we’ve liked but we knew we wanted to finish the season strong. We had a lot of young lads today and the last few months as well so to do what we did the last couple of games, clean sheet, five goals, I think we are really happy.
“We are buzzing, I think with these two games, I think it helps massively, we know we can do it. I know we haven’t got all the results like I said but we know we can do it and we have just got to keep on with the game plan, just keep backing ourselves and we can definitely finish as strong as we can.”
How has Luca Thomas performed for Leeds United U21s?
Thomas is a versatile forward who has mainly featured on the right wing but is also comfortable off the left or even as a striker.
The Englishman signed for the Whites from Manchester City in July 2021 [Transfermarkt] and has since graduated from the under-18s to the 21s.
This has seen him feature heavily in the Premier League Two this campaign. In 16 appearances he has registered six goals and four assists.
He already has more goal involvement this season under Gardner than he did last time out as he got nine in 21 games in the 2022/23 campaign.
Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt have both featured under Daniel Farke this season which could point towards a route to the first team for under 21s players.

With some good form in the PL2, Thomas could become a part of the first team next season primarily on the bench. He may also benefit from an EFL loan move to gain some first-team experience.
