Live from Thorp Arch: Leeds 19y/o in first-team training could hint at Arsenal inclusion

By Mark Smith at Thorp Arch

Leeds United under-23s welcomed Hull City to Thorp Arch on Sunday afternoon, after the Yorkshire derby was rescheduled from Monday.

With the youngsters usually playing through the week, rather than a weekend, it gave fans a chance to show up. Hundreds, maybe more than a thousand Whites fans showed up to give their support.

They were all treated to a masterclass, as Carlos Corberan’s side dominated throughout and secured all three points in a 5-0 victory.

Two goals from Ryan Edmondson, Liam McCarron, Alfie McCalmont, and Jack Jenkins made sure that Leeds enjoyed a great start to the decade.

Midway through the first-half, first-team training concluded and the squad made their way back inside. Marcelo Bielsa led the way, keeping a close eye on the under-23s in the process.

Robbie Gotts was involved with the likes of Kalvin Phillips after it was confirmed by Bielsa that the young midfielder would make his debut against Arsenal on Monday evening.

One more rarely-seen academy graduate spotted training was Oliver Casey. Whilst the likes of Pascal Struijk were with the under-23s, his fellow defender was being put through his paces with the first team.

The 19-year-old was not involved with the under-23s at all, with Charlie Cresswell and Nohan Kenneh filling in the heart of the defence.

This could be the biggest hint that Casey will be at least on the bench at the Emirates Stadium in the FA Cup third-round clash in North London.
