Live from Thorp Arch: Huggins shines in commanding win, Leeds U23 player ratings v Hull
By Mark Smith at Thorp Arch
The way Carlos Corberan’s men started the 5-0 victory against Hull, it was a surprise they have had a small break over Christmas.
Leeds were straight out of the blocks, dominating their Yorkshire rivals, who hardly had a sniff all afternoon.
Jack Jenkins opened the scoring with a low drive from inside the area after good work from Niall Huggins. It was Ryan Edmondson who doubled the lead, tapping home a brilliant Pascal Struijk ball at the back post.
Liam McCarron made sure of the three points with a thumping header in the second half. Edmondson then got his second to further emphasize the Whites’ dominance.
Alfie McCalmont then got in on the act with a cracking effort to make it five.
Here are our MOT Player Ratings…
Kamil Miazek 6
It was a quiet afternoon for the Pole. He was brave and made a number of straight forward saves.
Bryce Hosannah 7
Another game where his influence was mostly when Leeds had the ball. Hosannah got forward to great effect and supported Huggins perfectly. Chipped in a great assist for the third.
Charlie Cresswell 6
He didn’t have much to do in defence as Hull played a lone striker who was often isolated. Cresswell was strong enough and once again was vocally superb.
Nohan Kenneh 7
Was physically at the top of his game and was calm in possession after stepping up from the under 18s again.
Pascal Struijk 7
Much better from the Dutch colossus after a shaky month. Struijk played at left back, got an assist and was rarely beaten.
Alfie McCalmont 8
Just what you expect from the Northern Irish international. He may not be as extravagant as some but he is Mr.Reliable in the holding midfield role.
Jamie Shackleton 5
Frustrating for the midfielder who couldn’t manage a full half, being replaced by Bogusz. Hopefully, it was a planned changed in his rehabilitation from injury.
Jack Jenkins 9
Another game where he caught the eye. Jenkins was everywhere and got the goal he deserved after weeks of consistency.
Niall Huggins 9
Very good afternoon for the young winger. His pace caused constant problems and his delivery was always top-notch – claiming a couple of assists.
Liam McCarron 6
Made a number of strong runs but often left himself down with his final ball in the danger area. Did manage to grab his goal in the second half.
Ryan Edmondson 7
A typical Edmondson performance on Sunday. The young forward was frustrated for most of the game but still managed to pop up and get his name on the scoresheet.
Substitutions
Mateusz Bogusz 5
Was taken back off in the second half after failing to make an impact on the game.
Jordan Stevens 6
Eased in perfectly and played a number of delightful long balls
Leif Davis 6
His pace caused problems for Hull’s defence as he got in behind easily too many times.
