Leeds United return for Sonny Perkins still possible after new footage
Sonny Perkins could yet force his way back into the reckoning at Leeds United after what he did on loan at Leyton Orient on Sunday.
The FA Cup posted on X (3 November), showing Perkins’ impressive goal in Orient’s first-round tie with Boreham Wood, giving his side the lead before they won on penalties later on.
The 20-year-old turned his way through one challenge, stepped beyond another, and then arrowed a 20-yard strike through the crowd into the top corner.
Perkins also got the assist for Daniel Agyei’s goal early in the second half, and despite being pegged by with two late goals, Orient emerged victorious with a 3-1 penalty shoot-out victory.
Sonny Perkins still a long shot to complete Leeds United return
While Perkins’ strike will grab headlines for Leyton Orient fans, the fact that his first goal for the League One side came against a non-league team in the FA Cup says a lot about where his career is currently at.
Having headed out on a second consecutive season-loan loan spell from Elland Road, and with his United contract set to expire in 2025, Perkins pitching up in the white shirt again looks unlikely.
Last season’s loan move to Oxford in the same tier ended prematurely in January due to a lack of playing time at the Kassam Stadium, and Perkins has made just seven league appearances so far this term.
All seven of those Orient appearances have come off the bench, and while the Peacocks will be hoping for an uptick in his form, that’s likely with a view towards his exit.
The only way back for Perkins at Elland Road seems to be if a mass exodus of players occurs amid another failed promotion bid this season, but with Daniel Farke’s side already in the Championship’s top two, a severing of ties looks increasingly likely.
