Leeds United have new set-piece star after what Rhys Chadwick did v Stockport County
Daniel Farke could call on Rhys Chadwick to boost the set-piece output at Leeds United after what he did against Stockport County Under-21s.
The Whites posted on X (21 October) following the full-time whistle at York Community Stadium, which saw Chadwick, Jeremiah Mullen and Joe Richards all get on the scoresheet in 10 second-half minutes.
Chadwick’s strike was the pick of the bunch, a curling free-kick into the bottom corner from some 30 yards, something which hasn’t been seen since Ilia Gruev’s effort against Norwich City last season.
With Gruev out injured until the new year at the earliest, and the Whites looking to produce more from set-pieces, Chadwick could be a player Farke turns to in the weeks and months ahead.
Rhys Chadwick can help to transform Leeds United set-pieces
Chadwick’s peach of a strike against Stockport saw the Peacocks’ second set-piece goal in four days – and that’s a scenario which has been alien at Elland Road for quite some time.
Pascal Struijk’s header against Sheffield United on 18 October was United’s first goal from a corner since February, finally ending the hoodoo which has surrounded Farke’s side at dead-ball situations.
Joe Rothwell got the assist for that duck-breaking goal, but was rather fortunate with a lower delivery which set up perfectly for Struijk to strike first-time into the top corner.
There is, however, still lots of work to do when it comes to the delivery and execution of set-pieces, and 17-year-old midfielder Chadwick could be part of the long-term answer for Farke’s side.
Harry Gray and Sam Chambers, both younger than Chadwick, were each involved during pre-season, and who is to say that Chadwick can’t make a breakthrough of his own if his rich vein of form continues?
In other Leeds news, United fans won’t be happy after a new update surfaced concerning Archie Gray’s future at Tottenham.
