Leeds United finalise terms for midfielder loan exit, he’s joined Midlands club

Leeds United have announced the departure of highly-rated youth prospect Cian Coleman, who has joined Buxton on a short-term loan.

Coleman will join the National League North outfit on an initial one-month loan deal as the 20-year-old looks to gain some crucial experience in senior football.

Leeds announced his departure in a statement on the club website (18 October).

The statement adds: “The club would like to wish Cian well during his time at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium and we look forward to seeing his further development whilst away from the club.

Loan could be crucial for Cian Coleman’s development ahead of Leeds United return

Coleman has been a consistent member of Scott Gardner’s Under-21 side having made seven appearances in all competitions and has looked promising in those encounters.

A number of exciting prospects are coming through at Leeds

However, there is only so much progress that can be made at Under-21 level which is where loans can be crucial in player development.

The midfielder will get first-team exposure at senior level which is a completely different ballgame from the one played at youth level. It can be argued there is a lot more at stake and the level of physicality is often an eye-opener for young players like Coleman.

Still only 20 years old, he still has plenty of room for development and his potential is certainly there, with the talented youngster having featured in a next-gen list back in 2021.

Coleman’s loan to Buxton will be the first time he has experienced senior football after coming through the ranks at Leeds and is unlikely to be his last.

Daniel Farke will no doubt be keeping a close eye on his progress over the next month before making a decision on his future, much of which may come down to the state of Leeds’ injury list.

In other Leeds United news, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has spoken about his “unbelievable respect” for Leeds United ahead of Friday’s (18 October) clash.
