Leeds United boss Daniel Farke will be furious as Charlie Crew news confirmed

Daniel Farke will not be happy as he is set to see another Leeds United midfielder depart for international duty in Charlie Crew.

Crew, who is yet to make his first-team debut for the Whites, has been included in the Wales Under-21s squad to face Czechia and Slovakia this month [FAW, 3 October].

Despite the 18-year-old having made his senior bow for Wales before doing so at Elland Road, Farke would’ve hoped Crew would have been staying put at Thorp Arch having not received a senior call-up.

However, his departure, coupled with Ao Tanaka’s inclusion for Japan and Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev’s respective injuries, means Joe Rothwell is the only first-team midfielder of use to Farke during the break.

Daniel Farke misses chance to utilise Charlie Crew at Leeds United

If Farke wasn’t already short of fit and available options to use in midfield ahead of his side’s trip to Sunderland on 4 October, his squad becomes even more threadbare over the international break.

Forced into playing a double-pivot of Tanaka and Rothwell for the majority of their 1-1 draw with Norwich on 1 October, the German will only have the latter training for the upcoming two weeks.

That gives Farke no possibility of developing the new combination off-field, and being unable to insert Crew – the next cab off the rank at Thorp Arch – into that system will come as a blow.

Although Crew has only played 180 minutes of senior football since making his debut for the Welsh senior team in June, his involvement at Elland Road looks set to be turned up a few notches – albeit a little less so now after the two-week break.

The coming weeks will test Farke’s mettle in the dugout as he develops an untried, untested combination in central midfield, and the signs point towards Crew being thrust into the action sooner rather than later.

In other Leeds United news, one Elland Road star won’t be the flavour of the month on international duty after what he said recently.
