Leeds United: Archie Gray shares Harry Gray Elland Road breakthrough update with Sky Sports

Archie Gray says he would “love” to play with younger brother Harry in the Leeds United first team and has backed the forward to follow in his footsteps.

The Whites youngster told Sky Sports (19 March) he didn’t want to speak too much about the 15-year-old for fear of inflating his ego but admitted his hopes to play alongside him at Elland Road.

Midfielder Archie has been the breakout star of the season under Daniel Farke but his goal-scoring sibling is said to have drawn more attention when both were coming through the ranks at Thorp Arch according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

Gray said (1m 30s): “Yeah he’s a good player, he’s a good player. I don’t want to say too much about him, he’ll get a bit big-headed.

“If he keeps training hard them I’m sure he can do what I’m doing… hopefully, I’d love to play with him one day.

“It’d be like [great uncle] Eddie and [grandfather] Frank playing with each other again.”

Leeds United dynasty set to keep expanding under Daniel Farke?

It may be a little while yet before the younger Gray sibling gets his chance but Daniel Farke has already shown he isn’t overly bothered by age after he leaned heavily on the then-17-year-old Archie at the start of the season.

The German only had the homegrown teenager and new arrival from Chelsea Ethan Ampadu when the Championship campaign kicked off, but subsequent to the signings of Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev the academy product has done anything but fade into the background.

Evidently possessing a maturity that is beyond most at his age Gray has taken to senior football with relative ease, and while there should still be some consideration of overburdening him at such an early stage the concern has shifted from how much he can contribute to keeping him out of the grasp of Premier League giants.

It would obviously delight the fanbase if Harry can follow suit, and while there isn’t a great need for a new forward in the immediate future the strength of his name will surely give him an opportunity when he reaches that stage.

For now Farke’s side are marching towards a potential Championship title and a return to the top flight behind the goals of Crysencio Summerville, Patrick Bamford and Dan James among others, with one Gray a key part of the success so far this term.

It is perhaps an unenviable position for Harry to be in with Archie thriving on top of their family history at the club as there will be a lot of pressure on his shoulders and players’ development is not an exact science, but clearly anticipation is high.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are eyeing a move to sign a “devastating” young attacker who himself has made major strides this season.
