Jeremiah Mullen can stake Leeds United claim after impressing on international duty
Leeds United youngster Jeremiah Mullen will be on Daniel Farke’s mind after his latest performance for Scotland Under-21s on 10 September.
The 20-year-old centre-back played a full 90 minutes in the Tartan Army’s 5-0 win over Malta in their 2025 European Under-21 Championship qualifier, his eleventh cap at this level for Scotland.
Mullen made several bench appearances towards the back end of the 2022/23 campaign as they were relegated from the Premier League, but he is yet to make his first-team debut for the Whites.
Having returned from a half-season loan spell at Inverness Caledonian Thistle early due to a back injury, Mullen will be hoping that Farke gives him a chance in the first team this season.
Jeremiah Mullen waiting in the wings for Leeds United
Mullen is far from the only young central defender chomping at the bit for an opportunity in the Whites’ defence, with Farke having been hesitant to rotate his preferred backline during his time in charge.
Joe Rodon established himself as by far and away the first choice in the heart of the defence last season going into this one, with Pascal Struijk and Maximilian Wober also great options to have.

Club captain Ethan Ampadu was also utilised in defence last season in the absence of Struijk and Wober, forming a rock-solid partnership with Rodon at the expense of Charlie Cresswell and Liam Cooper.
With Cresswell and Cooper both moving on this summer, the likes of Mullen, Diogo Monteiro, Kris Moore and Reuben Lopata-White will all be hoping to move up the pecking order.
Mullen and Monteiro could both be seen as the players most likely to step up in the absence of Rodon, Wober or Struijk, but that difficult call will be Farke’s to make should the situation arise.
