- Current league: FA Women’s National League Division One North
Leeds United Women were founded in the late 1980s and have had a fair taste of glory despite their comparatively small stature.
However, the women’s team have had a topsy-turvy time with their association with the Whites, as then-chairman Ken Bates stopped their funding in 2005, thus forcing them to depend on sponsorship money for survival.
They later came to be known as Leeds Carnegie Ladies in 2008 and faced the prospect of shutting shop in the early 2010s.
Matters became worse when Leeds United withdrew funding and permission to use their name and branding under Massimo Cellino’s ownership in 2014.
However, the women’s team became a part of the Whites once again after Andrea Radrizzani brought them back into the fold in June 2017.

Leeds Women have notably been represented by a few iconic players, including Sue Smith and Lucy Ward.
The Whites’ ladies have also displayed their ability to compete at the highest, having reached the FA Cup final in 2006 and 2008.
They currently ply their trade in the FA Women’s National League Division One North, the fourth tier of English women’s football, with Simon Wood as their manager.
Leeds United Women’s play their home games at Garforth Town’s Bannister Prentice Stadium, but have played at Elland Road on occasion.
They earned a 3-0 victory over York City in front of 3955 fans the last time they played at Elland Road in November.

Leeds United Women manager
Wood has been in charge of Leeds United Women since September 2023, albeit on a part-time basis.
However, he is also employed by the Elland Road outfit on a permanent basis, as he serves as a health and wellbeing lead.
Wood has experience working with Red Bull, having functioned as a football coach at the New York Red Bulls in 2007.
He also has experience working at York City under his belt.
