Leeds United have confirmed that “a number of first team players” may feature for the Under-23s side tonight (Friday) when they take on Wolves.
Carlos Corberan’s side will travel to Bootham Cresent in York to play their final match of this season’s Premier League Cup as they can no longer qualify from their group.
Wolves, on the other hand, can still qualify and will no doubt be pushing for victory against the Whites’ development side.
Leeds have said on their official website that first-team players could be involved at Bootham Crescent and while it does not say who exactly, there is a good chance it’ll be those who are more on the fringes of Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad.
Illan Meslier might not be risked due to the possible ban looming over Kiko Casilla as his hearing for alleged racial abuse was held this week.
Ian Poveda is someone who might be involved with the 19-year-old winger being absent from Bielsa’s bench in recent weeks.
Poveda was signed up last month, presumably to replace Jack Clarke after he was recalled from his loan spell at Elland Road by Tottenham.
And like Clarke, Poveda has struggled to get into the senior side and is more than likely set to play a role in the Under-23s on Friday night.
It will still be good experience for Poveda to play against Wolves’ Under-23s as they are one of the better development sides in the country.
But there’s no doubt that the former Manchester City attacker would rather warm the bench for Bielsa when Leeds play against Reading at Elland Road on Saturday.
In other Leeds United news, Pontus Jansson has named this Leeds player as one of the best team-mates of his career.
