‘Wow’, ‘Would be massive’ – Many Leeds fans overjoyed with Phil Hay tweet about striker
Leeds United fans are going wild on Twitter after it was reported that the Yorkshire club is eyeing up RB Leipzig forward Jean-Kevin Augustin.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay caused a huge stir on social media when he shared a link to a report on The Athletic’s website which links Leeds with the 22-year-old Frenchman.
Leeds need a new striker signed up before the transfer window slams shut next week and Augustin seems like an ideal target given his record of scoring 20 goals in his last two seasons at RB Leipzig before being loaned to Monaco in the summer.
However, that loan with Monaco is where the issue lies with this.
The Athletic reports that Monaco are not willing to terminate Augustin’s loan with them, even though he has only started two Ligue 1 fixtures this season.
The France Under-21 international is hardly a key player in the principality but still, the ball is in Monaco’s court and even if they do terminate his loan, Leeds still have to strike deals with the player and RB Leipzig.
It sounds very complicated and you have to admit, it does not seem as though Leeds are very likely to pull this off.
But that has not dampened spirits of plenty of fans on Twitter, who are drooling over the idea of seeing Augustin head to Elland Road before next week’s deadline.
