Wolves want to replace Hugo Bueno before allowing him to leave on loan amid transfer interest from Leeds United, according to Carlton Palmer.

The Whites are reportedly one of several clubs interested in signing the versatile gem ahead of the transfer deadline alongside the likes of Celtic and Feyenoord [Dave Azzopardi, 4 August].

While Football League World pundit Palmer isn't sure Gary O'Neil's side will be tempted to sanction Bueno's move to Elland Road, he believes the Whites could take advantage of Wolves' current situation.

Speaking to Football League World on Monday (5 August) he said: "Bueno was a regular in Wolves' starting line-up last season, clocking up 25 senior appearances under Gary O'Neil, but he's not deemed to be a key player, and Leeds are looking to take advantage of the situation.

"It will be interesting to see if Leeds can tempt Wolves into letting Bueno go on loan to Elland Road having already rejected an offer from Norwich.

"The chances are Wolves will want a replacement before they allow him to leave the club.

"As I said they've already rejected an offer from Norwich to take him on loan, the likes of Celtic and Feyenoord are looking to get him on a permanent contract, and it seems that Wolves will let him go, but they want to bring in a replacement first."

Will Hugo Beuno exit Wolves amid Leeds United transfer rumours?

With the majority of Leeds United's outgoing business now likely behind them after the exits of Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray, Daniel Farke's side were always going to step up their recruitment in the coming weeks.

Bueno may have featured fairly regularly under O'Neil at Molineux last term, but there will likely be an acceptance that a season of playing week in and week out is what the 21-year-old needs to kickstart his development.

He could provide some much-needed depth both out wide and at fullback for the Whites as they look to make a return to the Premier League, however, any such loan switch will be reliant on Wolves' own incoming business.

With the new Championship season now only a matter of days away, Leeds won't want to wait around for too long for the Premier League club to make their own signings.

You have to wonder if they may turn to alternative targets if this is delayed further.
