Leeds set to sign winger from PL giants, rated highly by Bielsa and Orta – reliable journalist
Manchester City winger Ian Poveda is set to join Leeds United, according to LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross.
The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Friday night that Poveda, 19, is likely to become Leeds’ second signing of the January transfer window with Italian goalkeeper Elia Caprile also heading for a move to Elland Road.
It is understood that Poveda’s move to Leeds is going to be a permanent deal but whether it will be permanent now or in the summer is unclear at this stage.
Poveda has only made one senior appearance in his career when he played all 90 minutes of Man City’s 1-0 win against Burton in the Carabao Cup last season.
This term, the London-born teenager has been restricted to youth football in either Premier League 2 or the UEFA Youth League.
It seems as though the England Under-20 international is being snapped up to replace Jack Clarke after Tottenham recalled him from his loan spell at Elland Road.
LeedsLive journalist Cross adds that Marcelo Bielsa and director of football Victor Orta rate Poveda very highly so it seems as though the Leeds-bound winger could feature in the first-team in the second half of the season.
It would be better if a permanent deal was wrapped up though just to avoid having to worry about the number of loan players allowed in a matchday squad.
In other Leeds United news, this 28-year-old could have a field day against Sheffield Wednesday.
