Wilson ‘to make Leeds United decision’ as David Ornstein shares talks update
Leeds United are in the market for a new striker as they prepare for a return to the Premier League.
The Elland Road club clinched the Championship title on goal difference and have the golden boot winner in their ranks.
However, there are doubts over whether Joel Piroe can deliver in the top flight, meaning the Yorkshire outfit are looking to strengthen.
Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson has been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road, and there has been a significant update on his future.

Callum Wilson in talks over Newcastle United exit
Wilson has endured a trying campaign at Newcastle and finished the season without a single goal.
In fairness, the striker has suffered more injury problems this campaign, which has led to sparser opportunities.
Add Alexander Isak’s form to the equation, and it is understandable why the 33-year-old may be on the move this summer.
Callum Wilson’s 2024/25 Premier League statistics | Total |
Appearances (started) | 18 (2) |
Goals | 0 |
Expected goals (xG) | 0.38 |
Assists | 0 |
Touches | 6.1 |
Accurate passes | 2.2 (78%) |
Newcastle had the option of a further year on the forward’s contract, which is set to expire at the end of June.
However, it has been reported that the Magpies have decided against that option, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein via X 26 May).
He does claim, though, that the North East club have entered negotiations over a new deal that would be more incentive-based.
It is now up to Wilson whether he wants to stay at St James’ Park or depart for pastures new this summer.
Wilson transfer would be risk for Leeds United
Given Wilson’s quality, it would be hard to argue against him strengthening Farke’s side, however, they should still err on the side of caution.
The 33-year-old’s injury record is a concern, and he has been hampered by a series of setbacks throughout his career.
Heading into the Premier League, the last thing Leeds need is a player who will miss large parts of the season.
Therefore, if the Yorkshire club can get a player of similar quality without Wilson’s injury record, then they should look elsewhere.
Ultimately, reports suggest that the final decision will rest with Wilson and not Leeds, so there is still work to do to bring him to Elland Road.
The Newcastle man, who boasts 88 career Premier League goals, must now decide whether he wants to be a first-team regular or a bench warmer.
Either way, Leeds must themselves remain patient and be ready to pounce if they do indeed wish to sign him.
