Willy Gnonto transfer: Leeds United plans emerge after Elland Road development

Leeds United have set their plans for Willy Gnonto at Elland Road amid transfer interest from other clubs.

The 21-year-old has been one of the brightest prospects at the Whites over the years, and it isn’t surprising to see other teams eyeing him.

Gnonto’s future at Elland Road is uncertain, though, as his game time in recent weeks has dwindled, with the Italian starting on the bench in the last nine league fixtures.

The 21-year-old didn’t feature for the West Yorkshire outfit as they beat Sunderland 2-1 in the Championship on Monday (17 February).

Leeds United set transfer plans for Willy Gnonto

Gnonto will not be sold by the Whites despite interest in the Italian forward, according to Leeds Live.

The news outlet reports (18 February) that while the Peacocks are aware of other clubs eyeing the forward, they have no intention of parting ways with him.

As things stand, the 21-year-old’s current contract at the West Yorkshire club expires in the summer of 2028.

The attacker only signed a new four-year deal at Leeds United back in August, but it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

Willy Gnonto decision right call

Gnonto has been peripheral at Elland Road this season as Daniel Farke has preferred other options in his attack.

While the 21-year-old was a consistent fixture in the starting lineup at the beginning of the season, he has been left out of the team recently.

Joel Piroe has formed the crux of the attack at the Peacocks, while Daniel James and Manor Solomon have been on the wings.

Brenden Aaronson has been Farke’s go-to in the number 10 position, leaving Gnonto struggling for game time.

The Italian is still undoubtedly a pivotal member of the squad as they aim for Premier League promotion.

After beating Sunderland in the enthralling match, the West Yorkshire club are once again two points clear at the top of the Championship table.

Sheffield United are up next for the Whites at Bramall Lane on 24 February, and a win could potentially open up a five-point gap at the top.

If the Peacocks do win promotion, they must keep hold of players like Gnonto to ensure the best chance of surviving the drop.
