Willy Gnonto on verge of quitting Leeds United to join Everton in deadline-day switch
Willy Gnonto is on the verge of quitting Leeds United to join Everton in a deadline-day transfer, according to Calcio Mercato.
The Italian news outlet reported via their live transfer blog on Friday (1 September, 12:16pm CEST) that Gnonto, 19, is “very close” to signing for the Toffees ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline in the UK.
Gnonto’s already handed in and withdrawn a transfer request to leave Leeds this summer due to a number of failed Everton bids to sign the Italy international.

Really?
We’ll take this with a pinch of salt for the time being because this is just one report from Italy.
While Gnonto is Italian and Calcio Mercato may have sources close to the Elland Road forward, there’s not been anything concrete from sources inside the UK to suggest this deal will happen.
If Gnonto does go, it could be down to him causing issues again.
Leeds have been adamant in their stance on Gnonto this summer – he’s going nowhere.

However, a late bid with a lot of money could have weakened that stance a bit while a last-ditch effort to leave would have not only burnt bridges between Gnonto and the club, it would have thrown a grenade on the already-fractured relationship with the fans.
But we’re holding fire on assumptions right now.
We’ll know for sure whether or not Gnonto is a Leeds player at 11pm on Friday night.
We’ve got a good feeling he will be and that’s definitely a good thing after the Italian returned to action with a goal against Ipswich last week.
Either way, who on earth would want to join Everton right now?
