Willy Gnonto last ditch exit update as Leeds United priority emerges on Transfer Deadline Day
Leeds United aim to hold onto Willy Gnonto as a priority throughout Transfer Deadline Day, according to Graham Smyth.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported via the outlet’s website on 30 August that nobody has yet made a “last-ditch” move for the Italian to challenge that stance.
Everton pursued the attacker earlier this summer but withdrew after the Whites rejected a £23million bid [Nancy Froston, 6 August].
TEAMtalk then reported on 20 August that Gnonto’s agent was still looking to engineer him a move away from Elland Road after seeing Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter go.
Leeds United want to keep Willy Gnonto after Everton rejection
Daniel Farke won’t want to see any other players leave his squad ahead of the deadline unless it is very much on his terms.
He has already spent most of the summer watching his squad get weakened, particularly at the hands of similar exit clauses to the ones which plagued him a year ago.
The tables have thankfully been turned since Rutter’s departure to Brighton as Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon have come in.
Ao Tanaka has now joined on Deadline Day to reinforce the midfield and the Japanese international is available to face Hull City immediately [Sky Sports, 30 August].

Full-back Isaac Schmidt is due in for a medical next and sounds likely to be completed before 11pm, and there have been strong links to Freiberg’s Hungarian international Roland Sallai [Sacha Tavolieri, 29 August].
The Whites boss and the fans will hope the focus remains on incoming deals rather than any unplanned outgoing ones, with Gnonto a key part of the attacking set up.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have a back-up target in their sights if they fail to land an international attacking ace.
