Willy Gnonto exit twist at Leeds United as ‘financially lucrative’ claim made
Leeds United are now said to be open to offers for Willy Gnonto as the winter transfer deadline approaches, according to Justin Allen.
Allen, writing in the print edition of The Sun [27 January, Goals pull-out pg10], claims that Leeds are now open to selling Gnonto amid links with a move to Saudi Arabia.
In the report it is claimed that a “financially lucrative” move to the Saudi League could be on the cards for the Italian.
Gnonto has been a crucial figure at Elland Road this season but has seen his game time become limited in the last few weeks.
Leeds United cannot sanction Willy Gnonto exit this winter
Despite being nearly four weeks into the winter window, the Whites are still yet to add to their squad and with that in mind, they simply cannot afford to lose someone of such importance as Gnonto.
Although other attackers have been afforded more game time in recent weeks, his importance to the side cannot be overstated and his loss would be a huge one if the club were to sanction an exit.
His ability to play anywhere across the front line is key to the Whites’ promotion hopes, and in games that are crying out for that individual piece of quality, Gnonto has the necessary attributes in his locker to be able to provide it.

Simply put, Leeds need to retain their best players for the remainder of the season if they are to keep their place at the summit of the Championship. However, Daniel Farke may have a deciding role to play in their ability to do that.
If the German doesn’t afford more minutes to Gnonto, his head may very well be turned at the idea of a big-money move abroad. For that reason alone, Leeds need to be utilising him.
