Willy Gnonto agent should be ’embarrassed’ by Leeds United forward as release clause updates emerge

Stuart Rayner has called out Leeds United forward Willy Gnonto’s agent after the situation that has unfolded over the past week.

Writing on page 26 of The Yorkshire Post’s print edition on 17 August, the journalist said the Italy international’s agent should be feeling “embarrassed” as his client looks to “strop his way out of the club” after he’s been linked with Everton.

Sky Sports reported on 10 August that the 19-year-old asked not to be selected for the Whites’ game against Shrewsbury Town in the Carabao Cup on 9 August and he is now believed to be training alone.

Has a point

Rayner has a point that Gnonto’s agent should be embarrassed about the way the forward’s situation has developed at Elland Road over the past few days.

He signed a long-term contract at Leeds and, until the club decide that they are happy to let him go, he should honour the commitment he made just a year ago.

The Italian’s representatives made a major error when they decided not to push for a release clause in his deal after former sporting director Victor Orta was handing them out to pretty much anyone that asked for it.

Leeds United

There is no harm in a player wanting to play at the highest level possible, but you have to go about it in the right way by showing respect to the people that handed you an opportunity and the fans that pay to support you.

There really doesn’t seem to be a way back for the forward in West Yorkshire, but something is going to have to give in the next couple of weeks and it’ll be interesting to see what happens.
