Wilfried Gnonto open to Leeds United exit in January, report shares if he will push for transfer

Wilfried Gnonto is open to leaving Leeds United in the January transfer window, but won’t push for a move away from the club according to TEAMtalk.

Writing on their website (16 Noevmber), the news outlet report that the Italy international is open to the idea of a move away from the club amid reported interest from Everton, Roma and Lazio.

Lazio are reportedly preparing an expensive loan-to-buy offer in January and while the winger would be happy to go if a deal is agreed, he will not be looking to force a move during the transfer window like he did in the summer.

“And TEAMtalk understands that, while Gnonto is not looking to force a move, he would almost certainly be open to the idea were an agreement to be put before him,” they wrote.

Fair

It’s clear that in an ideal world Gnonto would rather be playing his football at a higher level than the Championship, and Lazio would be able to offer him Champions League football.

So it makes sense that he would be open to a move, but it seems as though the 19-year-old has learnt his lesson from the summer and knows that he can feel that way without making a fool of himself and the club publicly.

The club may well be more open to a transfer in January than they were in the summer because Gnonto isn’t a regular in Daniel Farke’s strongest team right now, having lost his place to Daniel James and Crysencio Summerville on the wings.

But it’s a long hard season and one of the reasons we have been able to perform so well is the fact we have fantastic strength in depth, which means an exit would have to make sense to Leeds first and foremost.

A loan to buy is unlikely to do it, but it will be interesting to keep an eye on in the coming months. It’s likely to be a very noisy transfer window once again at Elland Road.
