Wilfried Gnonto and Joe Rodon swap deal between Leeds United and Tottenham is ‘marriage of convenience’
Leeds United and Tottenham could carry out a swap for Wilfried Gnonto and Joe Rodon, according to the Express journalist Joe Krishnan.
The journalist mooted the deal as a “marriage of convenience” given how Gnonto wants to leave Leeds and Rodon is not wanted at Tottenham.
The latter is currently on a season-long loan at the Championship club, having spent last season on loan at French outfit Rennes.
“Spurs reportedly value him at £20million, but Rodon’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025 and that could allow Leeds to force their hand,” Krishnan wrote for the Express (19 November).
“It is unlikely they would pay such a fee unless they get promoted, and with Gnonto keen to leave, a swap deal would be a marriage of convenience for both clubs.”
Sensible?
It is clear that Leeds do not want to lose Gnonto, with the Whites succeeding in that aim thus far amid plenty of interest in the young winger.
It looked for all the world that the young Italian would join several other senior players in leaving Elland Road following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
A long list of first team players left West Yorkshire – either on loan or permanently – after the Whites were condemned to the Championship on the final day of last season.
But after a lengthy struggle, Gnonto remained, but the Whites could be in for another battle in January given the continued interest in the youngster.
The winger has been impacted by injury this season, but his potential is there for all to see, with Gnonto shining at times in the Premier League last time out.
But perhaps it is time for Leeds to let him go, in a potential deal that would allow them to snap up Rodon permanently.
