Leeds United have been linked with Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala for quite some time with the Spaniard’s contract expire set to expire in the summer.
The Daily Star reported in March that Leeds want to sign the 29-year-old with him featuring on their shortlist for potential targets for the next transfer window.
Ayala would be available on a free transfer and with Ben White and Gaetano Berardi currently set to exit Elland Road in the coming months, Marcelo Bielsa will need to add more options at centre-back.
Ayala’s wife Hannah has now revealed that although the couple have moved house to live down south, they are open to buying a house near the North Yorkshire town of Yarm if the ex-Liverpool player bags a new contract on Teeside.
“I knew this question would be the most asked, but at the moment we don’t know anything yet,” she said, as quoted by LeedsLive.
“It’s no secret Daniel’s contract ends this summer, but that wasn’t the reason we left our house up North.
“We had outgrown the house so we decided we would come back down South and look for a new house maybe closer to Yarm if Daniel gets a new contract.”
It bodes well for Leeds if they want to sign Ayala and the defender and his wife are looking to live in Yarm.
Although the town is a lot closer to Middlesbrough that it is to Leeds, it would not be the world’s worst drive to get from there to Thorp Arch and Elland Road five or six days a week.
What Ayala’s wife said is bound to fire up further speculation about Ayala’s future but it seems that all cards are being kept close to the chest at the moment.
Maybe we will get a better hint about the Spaniard’s future once the season is properly over and done with, contracts are sorted and clubs know will league they’ll be playing in for 2020/21.
In other Leeds United news, Jermaine Beckford was surprised by Bielsa’s decision to sign this player.
