Why Leeds United transfer for Jean-Matteo Bahoya may have saved sporting director's job

Jean-Matteo Bahoya's move to Leeds United may have had a consequence that would not have been known when the transfer was completed.

Leeds moved late in the window to add the 21-year-old attacker to their ranks on deadline day from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bahoya made the move to Elland Road on an initial loan deal, with Leeds retaining an option to buy.

Leeds could make the move for the Frenchman permanent for an initial £21.4million, with a further £4.3m in potential add-ons.

Daniel Farke had been keen to add a versatile attacker to his ranks during the window, and Bahoya fit the bill.

And now details have emerged from Germany about how the move has helped on senior figure at Frankfurt.

What did Leeds United signing Bahoya help to do?

Leeds looked at several options during the window to add another forward to Farke's squad and strengthen the German's attack.

The Whites were interested in bringing Mykhailo Mudryk to Elland Road from Chelsea on loan, but he ended up joining Tottenham.

But Leeds persevered in their attempt to add another body, and Bahoya was the man they landed on in a deadline-day swoop.

Now, according to German publication Bild, that deal has helped to save the job of Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosch.

Krosch was said to have been under pressure with the Bundesliga outfit, but deals involving Bahoya to Leeds and Hugo Larsson to Fulham has earned him a reprieve.

If both deals turn into permanent transfers then Frankfurt could land around £43m in player sales, and a meeting held after the window saw the decision taken for Frankfurt to stick with Krosch.

However, the report also stated that Krosch is still unlikely to see out the final two years of a contract that runs until 2028.

Where will Jean-Matteo Bahoya play for Leeds?

Farke has shown during his time at Leeds that he is comfortable switching up his formations in game if the situation requires it.

While Farke has found success utilising a 3-4-2-1 formation, he has also generally preferred to go with a four-man defence.

Bahoya is mainly a right-footed left winger, but would likely feature as one of the two behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin in a 3-4-2-1.

If Farke were to go with either a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 then Bayoya will likely be used out on the flanks for the Whites.
