Weston McKennie makes Leeds United admission after what he did, ‘Let several people down’

Weston McKennie has revealed his disappointment at his dreadful loan spell at Leeds United last season.

Speaking to Sky Italy on Wednesday (22 November, via Sport Mediaset), the 25-year-old midfielder admitted he “let several people down” as he was part of the Whites side that was relegated to the Championship.

But the US international said when he returned to Juventus over the summer, he had a “great desire” for redemption and to show that he deserves to play at a certain level.

“When I went to Leeds, I felt I had let several people down but when I came back it was as if it was the first time,” said McKennie. “I have a great desire for redemption and to show that I deserve to be in a certain place.”

Not good enough

Just like several of the players that Leeds brought in last season, McKennie simply wasn’t good enough after bringing quite a big reputation with him.

The midfielder was expected to bring something different in the middle of the park when he arrived on loan in January, but he offered very little.

The American recorded just one assist in 20 games, while he picked up a number of yellow cards as his defensive frailties were clear for everyone to see.

He has had a huge turnaround in fortunate this season, though, after earning his place back in the Juventus starting lineup, having made 12 Serie A appearances.

But there won’t be too many in West Yorkshire that are pleased for him as he did very little to help the club fight off relegation last season before heading back to Italy.
