West Ham ready to smash transfer record for £25,000-a-week Leeds United star Phillips

West Ham are willing to break their transfer record to sign Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United due to David Moyes being short of midfield options, according to The Times.

The newspaper reports the Hammers are prepared to pay over £45million for Phillips with the 26-year-old earning just £25,000-a-week on his contract at Elland Road.

It is understood that West Ham see Phillips as a potential signing amid fears Declan Rice could leave in the summer and because Alex Kral’s loan move to East London hasn’t worked out as planned. Mark Noble is also retiring at the end of the season.

No way

West Ham need to forget about this.

Their current transfer record is £45million and they’ll need to probably double that in order to convince Leeds to sell Phillips.

Not only is he one of the two best players at Elland Road but he’s also one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League and in English football.

We all saw how well he did alongside Rice in the European Championships and while the Hammers want him to possibly replace Rice, it wouldn’t be a shock to find out Moyes wants to pair them up.

Of course, Tomas Soucek is a good player. West Ham fans love him and will not want him see him dropped for anyone.

However, he’s the only central midfielder whose future at the London Stadium isn’t anything for Hammers fans to worry about.

Here, at Leeds, we’re not worried at all about losing Phillips.

If they want £100million for Rice, they’ll need to stump up a similar amount for the Whites to be interested in a sale, surely.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have made an approach to sign a Chelsea forward before tomorrow’s deadline.
