Victor Orta 'definitely has had an eye on' Viktor Gyokeres as Leeds United eye January transfer - Phil Hay
Victor Orta “has had an eye” on Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres ahead of a potential move to Leeds in the January window, says Phil Hay.
The Whites are in the market for a new forward in the winter window and the Sweden international has been linked with a £16m move to the Premier League, with his form this season seeing him lead the goalscoring charts in the Championship.
Speaking on the Phil Hay show (2 January), The Athletic journalist admitted that the club’s director of football has been watching the 24-year-old as a potential target, although he didn’t state if he expected a move to happen or not.
“He’s been linked before and Orta has definitely has had an eye on him,” he said. “He’s kind of been in the ether in the same way that Che Adams at Southampton has been as well.
“To my mind, he clearly scores goals and clearly has something about him. He clearly would fit the model that Leeds tend to go for.”

Orta has always got his eye on several different players across the continent and beyond, so it would be more surprising if Gyokeres wasn’t being looked at.
At 6ft 2 with great footwork, mobility and strength, he seems as though he’d be a perfect stylistic fit for Jesse Marsch’s side, who are in desperate need of goals.
At 24 he is still young and fits into the model that Leeds have when it comes to signings, as someone who could still improve and potentially be sold on in the future for a big profit too.
The big question mark would no doubt be whether or not he could make the step up to the Premier League mid-season and hit the ground running, because that is what Leeds need right now to avoid another relegation battle.
It’s certainly a deal to keep your eye on though, with several Premier League sides also showing an interest in the player so we may have to move quickly to get our man.
