‘Tyler Roberts should follow him’ – Many Leeds fans react to Phil Hay transfer update
Leeds United fans have been reacting on Twitter after it was reported that Barry Douglas is edging closer towards joining Blackburn Rovers.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported via his personal Twitter account on Thursday that Douglas, 31, is undergoing a medical with the Championship club ahead of a loan move to Ewood Park.
As Douglas is in the final year of his contract at Leeds, it seems unlikely that he will play for the Yorkshire giants again as Blackburn can sign him for free.
Douglas is at a point in his career now when he knows he might not have much time left playing at a high level of the game.
At the age of 31, he’s hardly playing for Leeds. He started just five times in the Championship last term and hasn’t been used at all in the Premier League since the Whites won promotion.
Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and Leif Davis are all ahead of the Scottish left-back in the pecking order so moving on makes sense.
That hasn’t stopped fans from being left gutted by the news though and here is a selection of their tweets:
We can understand the response to this news – except for the tweet where Tyler Roberts is told he should follow Douglas out on loan.
Roberts is still quite young, so we hope that fan is suggesting a loan spell for the Wales international so that he can develop – not because he doesn’t want him at the club.
In other Leeds United news, this 24-year-old could exit the Whites before the deadline passes on Friday.
